Canker sores are those shallow sores with some pink, whitish or yellowish openings in your mouth that is irritatingly painful. It can appear in your tongue or around your mouth and it can come 1 or more at a time! They are so annoying and when you accidentally bit on them, they get bigger and even more painful!
There is no certain cause for canker sores but they usually start showing their presence when you get at the age of 10 to 20 and can appear any time in your life after that. Doctors even say that canker sores are hereditary which means that if your father suffers from canker sores then you probably will too! Canker sores are not contagious though so you don’t need to hide away from everyone else if you have them.
Canker sores can develop if you accidentally bite the side of your mouth more than one time. By doing so can trigger the canker sores. Canker sores can also develop when you are under a lot of stress. Too much stress makes physiological effects and having canker sores during your stressful time just indicates that you are already overstressed and you should take things a bit slower.
Other contributors of canker sores can be your very own toothpaste! Do you know that most toothpaste have sodium lauryl sulfate to make it foam? Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is suspected to be causing those really painful canker sores so it’s best to choose a good toothpaste without it. Also, if you are iron or Vitamin B12 deficient then you are also at risk of having canker sores.
If you don’t want to take any medications or treatment then you can just wait a few days and your canker sores will just go away. If you can’t handle the irritating pain and want to enjoy your food again as soon as possible then you may try the following treatment for canker sores.
First, Carbamide peroxide is a great medicine to use as it cleans out the sores and coats them so they could heal easily. At first it may be painful but the pain will subside gradually.
Second, you can try mixing 2 parts of Hydrogen peroxide with 2 parts of water or have a salt and water and baking soda mixture and use this as a mouthwash. This will reduce the pain and also makes your canker sores heal much faster.
Lastly, you may try some black tea bags. Wet the black tea bags and try dabbing it on the affected area as often as needed and soon enough your canker sores will disappear!
Better keep those fruit juices and spicy foods away when you have canker sores. They may be really tasty but they would cause you a great pain. Treat it like you would with your wounds. After all, it’s a small and painful wound in your mouth.
