FEAR OF NEEDLES

One of the potential reasons for fear of dentistry is a chronic fear from needles. This fear translates into other walks of life such as receiving a vaccination at the doctor's office.

Avoiding the dreaded syringe

Dentists are fully aware of this issue and usually receive training on coping with this fear at medical school. In addition, over time, the health industry has created various tools and instruments that either ease or completely avoid the usage of needles in everyday operations at the dentist's office. Summarising, there are various ways to avoid syringes. However, you have to be aware that in most cases this fear is purely a psychological one and should be treated through other means such as desensitivitization in a more effective manner.

Air Abraders

One of the ways to cope with the fear are so-called air abraders that work by utilising tiny abrasive particles to get rid of any potential decay that has formed over the time. This method works relatively good with minor decay but various elements such as silver fillings form a problem for this methods. These limitations are one of the reasons this method is not being used on a wider scale nationwide.
