TOOTHBRUSH HYGIENE
Keeping Your Toothbrush Clean
You may have been brushing your teeth after every single meal, but have you been keeping your toothbrush clean?
Oftentimes, people forget that it is not only important to keep teeth clean; it is also crucial to make sure that what we use to clean our teeth is clean as well. After all, no one would want to put something dirty in his mouth.
Germs are everywhere
If you store your toothbrush in your bathroom near a sink or washbasin, you should be aware that it becomes vulnerable to germs. This is because whenever a toilet bowl is flushed, a fine mist of pollution is released to the surrounding air and this might reach your toothbrush.
Also, crawling and flying insects may contaminate your toothbrush, so it is always best to keep your bathroom and the rest of your house clean. It would also be best if you keep your toothbrush covered when not in use. Always replace your toothbrush after 3 months of use.
Old toothbrushes are not only ineffective; they are also breeding grounds for germs and bacteria.
Stay away from other toothbrushes
If you live in a dormitory, or with your family or friends, be wary of storing your toothbrush with other people’s toothbrushes. Doing so makes it possible for you to catch a disease or an infection from the owner of another toothbrush.
Also, Streptococcus mutans, the bacteria that causes tooth decay, may be transferred between toothbrushes. You may not be aware of it but this type of bacteria has the capacity to remain and thrive in your toothbrush bristles even after brushing your teeth. In fact, this kind of bacteria survives up to 6 hours of air drying, so it is important that you clean your toothbrush well.
Improve toothbrush hygiene
Rinsing your toothbrush with water is not enough. There is a wide variety of antiseptic toothbrush cleansers available in the market today. It is recommended that you use these as they have been proven to eliminate bacteria and reduce chances of contamination. Also, these cleansers usually come in different fragrances and flavors that give a minty and fresh feeling after you brush your teeth. They are also easy to use and usually come in spray bottles. Not only are they user-friendly, they do not take too much time to use and are effective at making sure that you keep your toothbrush hygienic all the time.
